Maruti Suzuki has officially pulled the covers off the latest iteration of its popular premium hatchback, the Baleno. While it might look familiar at a glance, this facelift packs a total of 15 distinct changes designed to keep the model competitive in a crowded segment. From exterior tweaks to a significant powertrain shift, here is everything you need to know about the newest Baleno.
A Fresh Face and New Tech
The first thing you’ll notice is the more aggressive stance. The front grille has been enlarged, leading to a completely redesigned bumper. In a nod to modern aesthetics, the fog lamps have transitioned from circular units to a sharper, rectangular design. You’ll also notice the Suzuki logo has been repositioned to accommodate the new radar sensor, which is a key component of the car’s Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), including features like lane keep assist.
The exterior updates are rounded off with a striking new “teal blue” paint option and a shark-fin antenna. However, it is worth noting that while the front and rear receive subtle cosmetic adjustments, Maruti has retained halogen indicators, and the alloy wheel design remains identical to the outgoing model.
Under the Hood: The Z12E Engine
The most debated change lies in the engine bay. Maruti has retired the K12N engine in favor of the all-new Z12E, a three-cylinder unit. While enthusiasts might note a slight dip of eight horsepower and one Newton-meter of torque, the swap is all about efficiency and sustainability. This new powertrain promises better fuel economy and reduced emissions, aligning with current market demands for greener mobility.
Interior Comfort and Cabin Upgrades
Stepping inside, the upgrades are immediately noticeable. The cabin now feels more premium thanks to leatherette upholstery and the inclusion of front seat ventilation—a feature controlled by intuitive physical buttons. Tech-savvy drivers will appreciate the new wireless charging pad, which now includes active cooling, and the addition of a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
Audiophiles will notice a shift from the previous Arkamys sound system to a brand-new setup by Clarion. Maruti has also addressed passenger comfort by adding a rear center headrest. While there are plenty of new buttons to manage the Level 2 ADAS features, the interior mirror has been simplified, stripping away some of the previous button clutter.
What’s Missing?
Despite these improvements, the “wishlist” remains long. Many fans were hoping for a sunroof, a cooled glovebox, height-adjustable seatbelts, and rear disc brakes. While this facelift definitely adds value, it leaves just enough room for future updates.
